Established in 1857, the Athens Cemetery is a place of reflection, providing comfort and a venue to celebrate and honor loved ones.

The Cemetery is recognized as a state historical cemetery and currently has seven historic markers honoring leaders, characters, and icons that helped to shape and form the Henderson County community.

As visitors arrive at the Cemetery, they are encouraged to stop at our informational kiosk just inside the front entry gate. An alphabetical roster identifies the location of each interment and a printed map will assist you in finding your way.

Whether you have an interest in history or just want to walk among the century-old black gums, Lebanon cedars and stately magnolias, we invite you to tour and experience this cherished place of reverence and beauty.
