In 2013, the Athens Cemetery proudly dedicated a Veteran’s Memorial Wall honoring veterans interred within the cemetery who served their country in the Cherokee Indian War, the Civil War, the Spanish American War, World War I, World War II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, the Iraq and Afghanistan Wars, and all other conflicts during the time of war and peace.

The impressive 50’ long, 10’ high structure consists of eight granite panels inlaid in brick. An American flag flies proudly over the memorial and the adjoining Veteran’s Court, creating a sense of reverence. The wall was made possible by the generous donations of the Friends of the Cemetery.

A complete roster of these veterans and the conflict in which they served, may be found HERE.

If your loved one is a veteran from any conflict, please let us know if you do not find them listed on the roster. They need to be recognized. If you have a special story of valor, a commendation earned, or just an interesting fact, please let us know. We are always searching for these types of facts to include in our news articles.
Our cemetery is only as rich with history as we, the living relatives and friends make it. Tell their stories so we may all remember.
